GOing Places – Girls-Only Soccer Camp

We are excited to present the second year of our girls-only soccer camp, ‘GOing Places’.

There is one week of this camp, and it is taking place at Adams Park, from July 8 - July 12, 2024.

Currently U4-U6 Half Day and U7-U12 Full Day spaces available.

ABOUT

Did you know:

  • 1 in 4 girls are not committed to returning to their pre-pandemic sport participation levels post COVID-19
  • 1 in 3 girls exit sport because of poor perceptions of belonging and feeling unwelcome

GOing places endeavors to address these gaps and provides an equitable, safe and fun opportunity to get girls (ages 4-12) back to their pre-pandemic sport participation levels or get girls playing the game for the first time. As a girls-only offering, GOing Places is grounded in a gender-equity approach and is a tailored opportunity for girls to gain confidence and competence in social and physical activity settings.

FOCUS

GOing Places’ primary focus is creating a safe and supportive environment for girls to enhance their physical literacy, have fun and develop friendships through participation in various physical and non-sport-based activities. Across the week, campers will engage with a wide-range of tailored offerings to explore and enjoy, including opportunities for:

  • Progressive honing of essential soccer skills and learning basic rules of the game
  • Creative non-sport specific programming (i.e., arts and crafts, nature exploration etc.)
  • Cooperative games

PHILOSOPHY

As a camp developed and delivered by girls, for girls, our philosophy is to create and hold space for girls to engage with and share in positive sport experiences alongside their peers, in order to inspire their confidence and drive for sustained engagement across the spectrum of existing and emerging opportunities for their current and future sport involvement.

The GIRLS are GOing places … Can’t wait to see you there!

Anika Biography

Anika is a long-time member of West Rouge Soccer and an advocate for safe sport and gender equity. After a lengthy competitive career as a youth soccer athlete, she has continued her involvement and work in the soccer community as both a youth coach and recently elected Director-At-Large. Anika is passionate about creating and holding tailored spaces for youth to stay active for life, however, as the only woman on our Board of Directors, her efforts are primarily in pursuit of increasing the amount of quality opportunities available for the advancement of girls and women, particularly those from equity-deserving groups, in and through sport.

With the support of club members, she is proud to present GO-ing Places – our first girls-only soccer camp, and is excited to continue working on the development of future girls-only opportunities for the future. She holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology and has recently completed a Master of Science degree with a research focus in athlete safeguarding, both granted by the University of Toronto, Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education. These experiences have informed her philosophy for sports leadership, being that shared responsibility for the promotion athletes’ holistic health and well-being, and values for inclusion, accessibility and human rights, is needed to ensure safe sport experiences for all.
