Anika is a long-time member of West Rouge Soccer and an advocate for safe sport and gender equity. After a lengthy competitive career as a youth soccer athlete, she has continued her involvement and work in the soccer community as both a youth coach and recently elected Director-At-Large. Anika is passionate about creating and holding tailored spaces for youth to stay active for life, however, as the only woman on our Board of Directors, her efforts are primarily in pursuit of increasing the amount of quality opportunities available for the advancement of girls and women, particularly those from equity-deserving groups, in and through sport.
With the support of club members, she is proud to present GO-ing Places – our first girls-only soccer camp, and is excited to continue working on the development of future girls-only opportunities for the future. She holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology and has recently completed a Master of Science degree with a research focus in athlete safeguarding, both granted by the University of Toronto, Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education. These experiences have informed her philosophy for sports leadership, being that shared responsibility for the promotion athletes’ holistic health and well-being, and values for inclusion, accessibility and human rights, is needed to ensure safe sport experiences for all.
